Almost continuously since its origin in 2000, Winterline Foundation has supported various programs and initiatives at Woodstock School, a 150-year-old international school located in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, India, that the Foundation has identified as a model of the kind of school that is making a substantially positive contribution consistent with the purposes of the Foundation.

Winterline is currently supporting the initial phases of a Centre for the Arts at Woodstock.  Through annual residencies, performances and exhibitions, and events such as the Mussoorie International Writers Festival, the Centre enriches the arts programs of Woodstock, promotes the arts in Mussoorie and reaches out to link the local community to cultural and creative endeavors in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, and beyond.

 

The core program of the Winterline Centre offers short and long-term residencies for writers or artists in various fields and genres.  Recognized artists from India and abroad are invited to apply directly to Woodstock School for these residencies during which they can undertake specific creative projects, such as completing a novel, working on a series of drawings or paintings, or composing a musical score.

 

During a residency the artist may also give performances, exhibitions or workshops for students and faculty at Woodstock and other schools in Mussoorie.  Most of these presentations are open to public.  The Winterline Centre also encourages students and faculty to pursue their own creative projects.

 

The Arts Centre includes the following elements:

 

�           Six to ten artists-in-residence each year.

 

�           An annual Mussoorie International Writers Festival

 

�           An annual Arts Festival including music, drama, dance and the visual arts

 

�           Exhibits on the Woodstock campus featuring internationally recognized artists
